Walker. This is the third book I bought and gave away to women friends, who all love it. It details an ancient matriarchal point of view which was taken over and almost eradicated by patriarchy. Many of our modern expressions and ideas can be traced back to these ancient times where women were gods and men willing to serve them.You wanna know about the origin of "marriage", find out that the words "devil" and "divinity" grew from the same root, that the symbol of cauldron represented the Great Mother's cosmic womb, find out about the origins of the concept of "trinity" and on and on ...?
An indispensable and well-researched compendium of fascinating historical facts, symbolism and mythological references. I lost my original copy in a house fire so bought another copy straightaway.

Packed with in depth information. Cuts through some of the myths we have been taught all our lives. Can't decide if I should just read it from front to back or use it as an encyclopedia. Guess I'll do both
The condition of the book is Excellent. It was delivered rather quickly after ordering it. I had already skimmed the book(borrowed from a friend), so I already knew I wanted to buy it. It is a "feminist" encyclopedia, and gives the history/development of how and why customs and beliefs have developed over the centuries.

Absolutely fascinating book. Almost every page rewrites history with the emphasis on "his." Very empowering to be have it retold as "her" story.I really enjoyed finding out all of the back story on where are taboos and myths and attitudes came from originally. For me this is must have reading material I've had a copy on my bookshelf for the past 30 years, and keep ordering of additional copies to give away to my female friends who thanked me profusely when they receive their copy.
This is a great reference book for people interested in history, myth, and culture. I was given a copy by a friend, and bought another copy for a friend. It's packed with surprising facts and obscure references that I knew nothing about, despite thinking I had a pretty strong background in mythology and religion.
